We are looking to recruit a part-time cook to work at New Thursby Nursing Care Home.

17 Hours per week
Shift Pattern: 8am till 5pm
Days: Saturday and Sunday
Salary: £10.50 per hour

Supporting Century Healthcare Ltd’s aim of delivering high standards to residents by providing nutritious, varied and well-balanced meals that are safely and hygienically prepared and served. Responsible for supervising the catering team along with managing and controlling the catering budget and ensuring all legally required paperwork is completed.


To plan, prepare and cook a variety of meals to the Company menu which are appealing, nutritious and centres on residents’ preferences, requests or any special dietary requirements.
To be active and encouraging, provide advice and guidance for the team ensuring that the home is a friendly, supportive working environment.
Understand and comply with statutory and legal requirements such as HACCP, Health & Safety, COSHH, Environmental Health, ensuring a safe environment within the home.
Implement, monitor and maintain cleaning schedules that meet the requirements of the Food Safety Manual, and ensure that all areas of the kitchen are immaculately clean.
Ensure sufficient food stocks are ordered and received from approved suppliers and that stock rotation is taking place to maintain optimum freshness of all foodstuff ensuring the highest quality expected within the home.
Responsible for all kitchen equipment ensuring it is in full, safe working order, reporting any damage or faults to the Registered Manager (Matron / Manager) in the first instance and then the Handyman if appropriate and following up any required action.
To be aware of your responsibility for ensuring the people you are looking after are safeguarded from abuse.
To be an active member of the home team and to be understanding towards residents and their needs and attend resident/relative meetings. Regularly monitor and assess resident’s satisfaction with the catering service provided in their home, and respond accordingly and positively to ideas and feedback.
Participate in individual supervision, training and appraisal, as agreed with your line manager.
Safeguard at all times the confidentiality of information relating to staff and residents.
To ensure their mandatory training is maintained.
Undertake any other operational duties identified by your line manager.
The above duties will be prioritised by the line manger in consultation with the post holder. The post holder may be asked to re-organise their work in order to respond to priorities as decided by the Senior Management Team. This would be done in a way consistent with the purposes of the post and in consultation with the post holder.
